ESMO 2026 | Advancing Cancer Research and Innovative Therapies

2026-10-10

The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress 2026 will take place in Madrid, Spain, from October 23 to 27. As one of the world's leading oncology conferences, ESMO brings together researchers and clinicians to share advances in cancer biology, translational medicine, clinical trials, and patient care.

At this year's congress, experts from GoBroad Healthcare Group (GoBroad), alongside specialists who have long contributed to its clinical programs and academic collaborations, will present research through oral presentations, posters, and scientific discussions.

The studies span a broad range of malignancies, including melanoma, neuroendocrine tumors, brain tumors, genitourinary cancers, gastrointestinal cancers, and hematologic malignancies, highlighting ongoing efforts to translate scientific discoveries into new therapeutic approaches.

Late-Breaking Abstracts: Emerging Evidence for Innovative Cancer Therapies

Late-Breaking Abstracts (LBAs) are among the most anticipated highlights of the ESMO Congress, featuring timely findings with potential implications for clinical practice.

This year, several studies involving Chinese researchers have been selected as LBAs, covering tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and novel bispecific antibodies.

Prof. Si Lu will present updated results from the GC101 TIL study (LBA55), a randomized, open-label, pivotal Phase II trial evaluating autologous TIL therapy in patients with advanced melanoma. The extended follow-up will provide further insights into the durability of treatment responses, long-term safety, and potential clinical benefits of cellular immunotherapy in solid tumors.

Prof. Jian Li will present the first-in-human study of MRG007 (ARR-217; LBA34), a novel CDH17-targeting exatecan-based ADC for patients with locally advanced or metastatic solid tumors. The study will contribute early clinical evidence to support further development of this targeted therapeutic approach.

Prof. Ming Lu will report findings from a pivotal Phase IIb registration trial of LBL-024 (LBA57), a novel PD-L1×4-1BB bispecific antibody, as monotherapy for patients with advanced extrapulmonary neuroendocrine carcinoma who have received at least two prior lines of treatment. The study addresses an area of substantial unmet clinical need, where treatment options remain limited.

Together, these three LBAs reflect the diversity of oncology innovation, from long-term evaluation of cellular therapies to early-stage ADC development and pivotal clinical investigations of bispecific antibodies.

As clinical evidence continues to emerge, these studies may help clarify the efficacy, safety, and potential therapeutic roles of innovative treatment strategies.

Exploring New Therapeutic Strategies Across Cancer Types

Beyond the late-breaking abstracts, multiple research teams will present studies addressing treatment resistance, combination therapies, precision oncology, and clinical translation.

  • Brain Tumors: Prof. Wenbin Li's Team

Prof. Wenbin Li's team will present research focusing on precision treatment and innovative therapeutic approaches for gliomas.

A study of HSK42360, a novel blood-brain barrier-penetrant BRAF inhibitor, has been selected for a rapid oral presentation. It will evaluate preliminary clinical activity and safety in patients with BRAF V600-mutant gliomas.

Additional studies will explore combination treatments for recurrent high-grade gliomas and the biological characteristics of tumor cells, contributing to a deeper understanding of therapeutic challenges in neuro-oncology.

  • Genitourinary Cancers: Prof. Dingwei Ye's Team

Prof. Dingwei Ye's team will share research on ADCs, the tumor microenvironment, and precision therapies for genitourinary malignancies.

Two studies have been selected for oral presentations, focusing on a novel ADC combined with immunotherapy for urothelial carcinoma and an innovative therapeutic strategy targeting the tumor microenvironment.

These investigations aim to identify new treatment opportunities and expand the evidence base for future clinical development.

  • Gastrointestinal and Other Solid Tumors: Prof. Lin Shen's Team

Prof. Lin Shen's team will present multiple studies involving bispecific antibodies, ADCs, targeted therapies, and cellular immunotherapy.

A Phase I study investigating GCC-targeted CAR-T cell therapy in advanced colorectal cancer has been selected for an oral presentation, exploring the potential application of CAR-T therapy in solid tumors.

Another oral presentation will focus on Opamtistomig (LBL-024) combined with chemotherapy as first-line treatment for advanced extrapulmonary neuroendocrine carcinoma.

Together with the LBA study of LBL-024 monotherapy in previously treated patients, these investigations illustrate the clinical development of this novel immunotherapy across different treatment settings.

  • Gastric Cancer: Prof. Jin Li's Team

Prof. Jin Li's team continues to investigate innovative therapies addressing unmet needs in advanced gastric cancer.

A randomized, double-blind Phase III trial evaluating gintuximab combined with paclitaxel as second-line treatment for advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma has been selected for poster presentation.

The study aims to generate clinical evidence for evaluating this investigational treatment strategy in the second-line setting.

  • Melanoma and Renal Cell Carcinoma: Prof. Jun Guo's Team

Prof. Jun Guo's team will present research exploring innovative immunotherapies, treatment resistance, and sustained patient benefits in melanoma and renal cell carcinoma.

A study involving a PD-1/VEGF bispecific antibody in advanced renal cell carcinoma has been selected for a rapid oral presentation.

Other investigations will examine treatment options following immune checkpoint inhibitor resistance, TIL therapy, and molecular characteristics associated with treatment response and resistance.

These studies aim to deepen understanding of cancer biology while exploring new therapeutic opportunities.

  • Hematologic Malignancies: Prof. Yajing Zhang's Team

Prof. Yajing Zhang's team will present research on CAR-T cell therapy for relapsed or refractory hematologic malignancies.

A study investigating a dual-switch sequential CAR-T strategy in relapsed or refractory Burkitt lymphoma has been selected for poster presentation.

The research focuses on treatment resistance, clinical outcomes, and CAR-T cell kinetics, providing additional evidence for optimizing cellular immunotherapy and developing more individualized treatment approaches.
